Xpeng Plans To Recruit 4,000 New Employees

The move comes as the company seeks to navigate what it describes as intense competition in the automotive industry

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has announced intentions to hire 4,000 new employees this year and spend heavily in artificial intelligence. The move comes as the company seeks to navigate what it describes as intense competition in the world's largest automotive industry.

The recruitment drive would result in a 25 per cent increase in Xpeng's present staff, which stood at 15,829 by the end of 2022.

Chief Executive He Xiaopeng announced the expansion in a letter to staff on Sunday, the first working day following the Lunar New Year break.

He also stated that the firm will invest 3.5 billion yuan ($486.36 million) in AI research and development for intelligent driving, and that Xpeng intends to introduce approximately 30 new products or upgraded models over the next three years.

Xpeng's expansion plans stand in stark contrast to competitors, who are scrambling to cut costs. Despite increased discounting led by Tesla, demand in the world's largest vehicle market remains weak.
