Snowflake Appoints Sridhar Ramaswamy As CEO; Frank Slootman Retires

Ramaswamy was previously Snowflake's SVP of AI and co-founder of Neeva, which was later acquired by Snowflake


Snowflake, a US-based data cloud firm, announced on Wednesday that Sridhar Ramaswamy will take over as CEO from Frank Slootman. Ramaswamy was previously Snowflake's senior vice president of AI and co-founder of Neeva, an AI-powered search engine bought by Snowflake in 2023. He brings extensive experience from his 15-year employment overseeing advertising products at Alphabet Inc.'s Google.

Ramaswamy took leadership of Snowflake's AI strategy after joining the firm in May 2023 following the acquisition of Neeva. He was instrumental in introducing Snowflake Cortex, a new fully managed service aimed to ease and protect AI usage for all users, enabling faster business outcomes. Prior to joining Snowflake, Ramaswamy co-founded Neeva in 2019.

Prior to Neeva, Ramaswamy spearheaded Google's entire advertising portfolio, which included search, display, and video advertising, as well as analytics, commerce, payments and travel.

Before joining Google, Ramaswamy worked in research at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, and Bell Communications Research (Bellcore). In addition, he was a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners from October 2018 until recently and is currently a member of Brown University's board of trustees.

Frank Slootman, who retired as Snowflake's CEO will remain chairman of the board.
