Government e-Marketplace has appointed Dr Pankaj Dikshit, CTO, GSTN as its new CTO.

Dikshit possesses over 2 decades experience in policy making and strategy at the apex level of private enterprise, as well as the government.

Dikshit took to LinkedIn to confirm his new stint at GeM Marketplace, "8 years of a roller coaster ride in GSTN - not a single dull moment - comes to an end! Had a ringside view of history. Proud to have been a part of history."

Prior to the GST regime, the indirect tax system in India was governed by the Center, States/UTs as per their respective laws and rules pertaining to the various taxes and levies.  In order to assess the nation's indirect tax collections, one can imagine the nation-wide coordination that would have been needed in that era.

When asked about his notable contributions at GSTN as a technology enabler, he stated, "With the advent of GST regime, the single technology platform that was designed and developed for it, the entire nation's GST collections were available in one place!  The taxpayers and tax administrators could use the same platform.  The country-wide GST collections were available on a near real-time basis, month on month. The nation's inter-state restrictions vanished and it became a single market - One Nation, One Tax, One Market! All this has been possible only with technology."

He further added, the efficiency that has been enabled by technology is prominently visible in the month-on-month (Q-o-Q, as well as Y-o-Y) GST collections over the past years. The ease of doing business, the ease of tax compliance, the ease of tax administration as well as the ease of transporting goods across the country - all are enabled by the use of technology!  The GST has been a major component and achievement of the Digital India campaign.

Let's glance over his notable contributions at GSTN:

- 14 million taxpayers, 1.06 billion returns filed, ~16 billion invoices, ~280 million payment transactions - a journey that began with ZERO!
- Building the GSP ecosystem (nearly 100 partners who walked in and out through the GSTN doors).
- E-way bill system: ~3.5 billion e-way bills!
- NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) system integration with E-way bill system (NHAI, NPCI, NIC).
- E-invoice (invoice digitization): ~2 billion e-invoices registered.
- Private Invoice registration partners ecosystem: 4 fintech partners on-boarded as private IRPs for e-invoice registration (error-free, flawless launch)!

Today, the government's e-Marketplace has seen exponential growth in the past couple of years, achieving nearly $12 billion GMV.  The technology platform for buyers and sellers to meet is robust and is helping shorten the logistic span for government buyers.

Talking about his new stint, Dixit plans on endeavoring to explore the use of emerging technologies (possibly AI or ChatGPT-like enhancements) to further the same objective.

His last working day at GSTN was 15th March, 2023 and joined GeM from 16th March, 2023.
