Microsoft Announces Pandemic Bonuses Worth $1,500 To Employees Worldwide

However, LinkedIn, GitHub, and ZeniMax employees are not eligible for the bonus, despite Microsoft owning these three separate companies

Microsoft, a technology giant is set to roll out one-time bonuses worth US$1,500 for its employees in order to appreciate their resilience during the last challenging year. Kathleen Hogan, Chief People Officer at Microsoft, announced the bonuses in an internal memo last week.

Tech Giant, Microsoft currently has 175,508 employees globally and this bonus will be offered to all staff below corporate vice president level that started on or before March 31st, 2021, including part-time workers and those on hourly rates. It will apply to all eligible employees in both the US and internationally. However, LinkedIn, GitHub, and ZeniMax employees are not eligible for the bonus, despite Microsoft owning these three separate companies.

The overall amount of the bonus will be around US$200 million, considering the number of eligible employees within Microsoft.

The idea behind bonuses and assistance to workers encourages Microsoft's working model and serves as a gesture to its employees. The tech giant reports 38 per cent profit during the first quarter of 2021. Moreover, due to the expansion of cloud services, increase in Windows usage and moreover, Microsoft generated over US$160 billion in revenue in electronics sales, the merger of businesses and companies.

Microsoft follows a similar employee bonus program from other leading companies. There are companies that handed out a gesture of appreciation to its employees and workers like Facebook offered a US$1,000 bonus to its employees in March 2020, Google has also had a similar gesture in May 2020, and Amazon rolled out a US$300 bonus to its front line workers and US$150 to part-time workers.
