Is Starbucks Violating Diversity Policies?

The higher hierarchy of Starbucks Corp is being sued under discrimination in diversity policies

The top officials of Starbucks Corp are sued by a conservative think tank to distinguish policies for recruiting people of different races. 35-current and former directors and executives including interim CEO Howard Schultz are being sued under these complaints. Taking cognizance of this matter, Public Policy Research confronted the coffee giant to set distinct hiring criteria for the Blacks and people of other colours.

Starbucks corp has 34,948 stores across the world including 17,050 stores in North America. One of the shareholders of the Starcks, Plaintiff said that ‘’those policies require the company to make race-based decisions that benefit minorities, and violate federal and state civil rights laws.

Since the incident of George Floyd took place, every company is looking over their space to recruit more of Black people and focus on improving their diversity policies. Starbucks claimed in October 2020 that It would aim for the Black people, indigenous people and people of other colour to hold at least 30% of U.S. corporate jobs and 40% of U.S. retail and manufacturing jobs by 2025, and tie executive pay to its diversity efforts.

The company did not respond immediately on Wednesday to the comment.

The complaint said that diversity push "benefits them personally to pose as virtuous advocates of 'Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity,' even as it harms the company and its owners,"

Starting from January, Starbucks said it planned to nearly double its annual spending with diverse suppliers and vendors to $1.5 billion by 2030 and allocate 15 % of the ad to the minority owned and ‘’targeted’’ media companies.
