It's not a very hearty beginning for Amazon employees. Adding to massive round of job cuts first announced last year, the e-commerce giant Amazon is planning to lay off more than 18,000 employees; disclosed Chief Executive Andy Jassy . The news came as a shock to employees on Wednesday, after more than 100,000 employees of large U.S. corporations lost their jobs in 2022 amid growing recession fears.

Jassy further states that the layoff decision at Amazon are bound to largely impact the company's e-commerce and human resources organizations.

In a note Jassy felt apologetic of having been hired rapidly over the last several years.

Jassy reminices the time when they began letting go off the staff. It was in Novemeber 2022 that the layoff wave began at amazon and a source close to Reuters disclosed that it was targeting 10,000 job cuts then.

And in numbers it shouldn't come as a surprise to many that amazon is on the road to cross the layoff numbers at its 11,000 job cuts, more than Facebook-parent Meta Platforms Inc as well as reductions at other tech-industry peers.
