IT/Software, Production and Quality/Testing sectors have shown promising growth since May 2018, according to Shine.com, which recently mapped its own data to reveal important insights into job creation in India.

Top performing industries

As far as industries are concerned, IT/Software has remained the undisputed leader. The Manufacturing industry has gained significant scale since May 2018. Second, only to IT/Software, the industry has shown exceptional growth. Interestingly, the BPO/Call Centre industry that was at the 3rd position on the list in May 2018, has dropped out of the top 5 job-creators’ list. Telecom has found itself in the top 10 list, registering stellar growth since 2018. Though still growing, the aviation industry has witnessed a significant slowdown and is now at the 10th position on the list.

Other industries that have retained top positions include Recruitment, Education/Training, and BFSI.

City-wise analysis

City-wise data pertaining to job growth has shown incredibly surprising results in May 2019. For the first time, Pune has entered the top 5 list of maximum job creators and has removed Delhi from its high position. On the other hand, Delhi has witnessed a significant slowdown, reaching the 5th position on the list. While metro cities have been absorbing maximum professionals, over the past year, this is the first time a tier 2 city has shown such remarkable growth. Other than Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Gurugram have bagged top positions on the list.

Functional area analysis

Analyzing the top 10 list of the job-creating functional areas in India, Shine.com found that IT/Software has shown maximum growth. Customer service, which topped the list in May 2018, has, in turn, shifted down to the 5th position on the top 10 list. In a surprising development, the Quality/Testing sector has entered the top 5 for the first time since May 2018. Showing promising growth, Aviation has also found its way back into the top 10 list of job-creating industries.

Evidently, there is no dearth of jobs in India at the moment. High-value jobs exist across geographies and sectors. The demand, then, for skilled professionals is set to rise exponentially, making it the need of the hour for the Indian workforce to prepare itself for new, tech-centric job roles.

Neha Kaul, Head – Brand and Growth Marketing, Shine.com said, “The jobs landscape is booming on the back of technological disruption across all sectors. It is heartening to see the substantial growth of key industries such as IT/Software, Manufacturing and Quality/Testing. Tier 2 cities such as Pune have also shown considerable job growth making it evident that industry development is underway across all major sectors and geographies. We are gearing up for an increase in job postings on the Shine.com portal and are equipped with the technology to match jobs with relevantly skilled candidates from across the nation.”
