HCL offers hefty COVID insurance cover to its employees

The tech giant is offering its staff an insurance cover of ₹ 30 lakhs in addition to a ₹ 7-lakh employee deposit insurance cover for COVID. The surviving families of the employees who have lost their lives to COVID will receive medical coverage for three years and additionally, their children’s education will be covered for five years.

HCL, the Indian-origin multinational IT service company has announced COVID care insurance initiatives to offer financial security to its 1.6 lakh strong workforce.

With around 1,600 employees infected by the COVID-19 virus to date, some of which were fatalities, the tech giant is offering its staff an insurance cover of 30 lakhs in addition to a Rs 7-lakh employee deposit insurance cover for COVID. Additionally, in the event an employee passes away due to COVID, the family will be entitled to receive the full value of the cover along with a year’s salary of the employee.

The surviving families of the employees who have lost their lives to COVID will receive medical coverage for three years and additionally, their children’s education will be covered for five years. It was also announced that the spouse of the deceased will also be given adequate training and a position with the company will be facilitated if they are keen on it.

The Company has already created a ‘Power One’ corpus, to which each employee contributes one rupee daily and is now additionally aiming to create a fund for the financial assistance for the affected staff.

HCL Group helped with COVID-19 care facilities in Delhi-NCR and it announced last week that it will help set up 500 hospital beds in various facilities, including the Commonwealth Games Village (CWG), Holy Family Hospital, Sama Hospital and Lok Nayak Hospital in New Delhi, as well as the Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida Authority. The Group has also contributed to the installation of the oxygen plant at the Commonwealth Games Village, in collaboration with the Delhi government and Doctors for You.

HCl joins the list of corporate companies like Amazon and Google as well as Indian firms Tata Sons, Reliance Industries Ltd and Adani Group, etc to have set up Covid hospitals, airlifted cryogenic tankers from abroad for transporting medical oxygen and contributed funds to fight the Covid crisis.
