Hiring for tech roles continues to grow in non-IT sectors vs pre-pandemic numbers

While the IT-Software and Internet/eComm industry continues to dominate hiring activity in this domain, there’s been a 41% uptick in the average number of tech jobs from non-IT sectors in Mar-May’21 vs Mar-May’19. Hiring for tech roles has also grown by over 2X in industries like FMCG and Education/Teaching. Sectors such as Animation/Gaming (1.7X), Retail (1.6X) and Insurance (1.4X) too have seen an upward demand for tech professionals in the same period. According to Naukri.com, tech professionals are also highly valued by companies in non-IT sectors. The number of jobs for higher salary buckets such as 20-30 LPA has gone up by 3.3X and roles paying greater than 30 LPA have increased significantly by 4.9X in Mar-May’21 vs Mar-May’19. On the other end of the salary spectrum, hiring for tech roles with the salary bands of 5-10 and 10-20 LPA has grown by 1.7X.

Jobs in the salary bands of 0-1 LPA and 5-10 LPA have seen an average growth of 29% in non-IT sectors whereas in the IT sector jobs have increased by 55% on average in 5-10 LPA and 10-20 LPA salary buckets. Interestingly, jobs have gone down for those belonging to the salary bucket of 2-5 LPA by 29% for the IT sector and 12% for the non-IT sector in the same time period as above.
