The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has drastically affected the entire nation. Coronavirus is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China in December 2019 and was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11th March 2020. The virus initially spreads between people similarly to influenza via respiratory droplets from coughing or exhaling. Common symptoms are fever, cold, cough and shortness of breath. Various complications include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

To make sure that prevention is taken to combat the spreading of the virus, travel restrictions, quarantines, curfews, event postponements and faculty closures have been included. Furthermore, measures like increased screening at airports and train stations along with passenger restrictions have been deployed. Various state governments have already postponed the examinations at schools and universities.

Keeping the seriousness of the disease in mind, every organization should make sure that they stay safe and take all the necessary precautions for their staff.

Following are the various steps that people should follow:

1) People should stop shaking hand and use other non-contact methods of greetings.
2) Clean hands every one hour and there should be regular reminders for others too.
3) There should be habits created to avoid touching their faces and one should cover their mouth while coughing or sneezing.
4) Regularly the surfaces like doorknobs, tables, desks and handrails should be disinfected
5) Windows should be kept open to increase the ventilation in the workplace
6) Physical meetings should be avoided and the usage of videoconferencing should be adapted
7) If not possible, meetings should be held in open, well-ventilated areas
8) Large meetings or gatherings should be postponed
9) Asses the risks of business travel
10) Every employee should limit sharing their food till the time this danger doesn’t go away

If people are feeling sick, they should avoid coming to the office as it would affect the health of others. Employees should avoid coming to the office and even if there is a sick member at their home since there are chances that they might be infected too and due to their carelessness, it might affect others.

Employers need to be aware of the relevant workplace safety laws at issue as well as should be aware of the potential for discrimination based on irrational xenophobic fears. Coronavirus is a pneumonia-like infection with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. There is no proper cure for the virus and hence every individual should be extremely careful.

If not taken proper care it can become worse and spread rapidly causing damage to other individuals too. There have been ample amount of deaths worldwide due to this virus. Precautionary steps to prevent themselves or their close ones getting affected by it should be taken into consideration. We look at pandemic free India hopefully soon.
