Blinkit, an app-based company that delivery items around the country, has been accused of exploitation by its employees here. A few months back, delivery workers across the country went on strike against the corporation, notably in the Delhi-NCR region, over the flat payout methodology for 'delivery partners'.

The most recent incidence that has enraged workers comes from Malviya Nagar, Delhi, where employees accuse the company's management of beating some delivery boys.

In this regard, on Tuesday, 9 January, the App Employees Ekta Union, affiliated with AICCTU (All India Central Council of Trade Unions), protested in front of the Malviya Nagar police station, alleging "brutal beating" of an employee by several Blinkit management members.

The AEEU has expressed concerns to the Delhi lieutenant governor and chief minister, but the government is unwilling to examine the issues, leaving app developers to make arbitrary judgements. The union is pressing the Delhi government to heed worker demands and hold talks to end exploitation.

Workers are particularly opposed to the new flat payout rate, which has decreased wages from Rs 25-32 per order to just Rs 1,000 for a 12-hour work day. The company's use of this flat compensation system is producing problems for delivery partners.
