Winning Stroke: Interview With Kashyap Vadapalli, CMO, Pepperfry

"Not a movie character, but I resonate with Mike Ross from one of my favorite TV shows – Suits, as his character is very endearing."

?

If not in the current profession, you would be?

I would be a writer/storyteller. It is my keen interest in understanding people, cultures, and communication that brought me to marketing as a profession in the first place. So, if I was not to be a brand-marketer then I’d still stay true to my passions of understanding people/places/cultures and then communicating about them – which would make me a writer/storyteller or an academic maybe.

One tune you always hum:

I can listen to and sing 'Yaha ke hum sikandar' from Jo jeeta wohi sikander at any given moment

One book to read when you want to motivate yourself:

Any collection of the Dilbert comics. The smartly written office satirical comedy never fails to make me laugh and keeps me motivated.

One dialogue of a movie that motivates you or you like the most:

“I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.” This dialogue from Shawshank Redemption really struck a chord with me, as I believe that everything we do in our life eventually boils down to the ultimate choice we make.

The place you never been to and always want to go?

Antarctica is one place that definitely makes it to my bucket list. It would make for a fascinating holiday.

An animal that signifies you & why?

I would pick elephant as it has a long flexible trunk

A Movie Character you most resemble or resonate with?

Not a movie character, but I resonate with Mike Ross from one of my favorite TV shows – Suits, as his character is very endearing.

Choose one from each below:

Marvel or DC: Marvel

Batman or Superman:  Superman

Tom or Jerry:  Jerry

Chacha Chaudhary or Super Commando Dhruv: Chacha Chaudhary

If your life was to be turned into a movie who would you like to play your part?

Definitely Bruce Willis. I admire his acting prowess.

Luck or Hard Work, what do you think weighs more in defining a successful person?

Hard work is a fundamental requisite but I believe that luck plays a very significant role in the path to success

One best decision you ever made?

My friends and family are convinced that growing my beard was the best decision I ever made

A strategy that you always use to take your decisions in Personal or Professional life?

I’ve always followed the philosophy of “Identify the flow and bet against it” and so far, it has proved to be a stimulatingly successful mantra.

Whose advise you seek when in dilemma?

When I am in a dilemma, I always ask myself, “What would Sherlock Holmes do?”

What has been your biggest achievement?

Once I read an entire murder mystery backward, chapter by chapter! But on a serious note, I have had the opportunity to work with some really great brands and it would be difficult to pinpoint any achievement.

One thing that you want to change in yourself?

I want to take more holidays and maybe tick Antarctica off my list.

A line said by your close one that you never forget?

My daughter uses this quote from the movie Wonder which really inspires me, “If you have a choice between being right and being kind, always choose to be kind.”
