Winning Stroke: Interview With Gitika Srivastava, Founder of Navya

"Luck plays a part, but not without hard work. Hard work without luck, will get you nowhere. For a hard-working person to be successful, she must also have luck by her side."

?

If not in the current profession, you would be?

An early stage investor in new innovations—technology startups out of universities and labs, founded by first-time entrepreneurs who think boldly about visions to impact global health.

One tune you always hum?

“Ajeeb dastan hai yeh… Kahan shuru Kahan khatm…”

“Jamaican Farewell:   But I’m sad to say I’m on my way, won’t be back for many a day, my heart is down, my head is turning around, I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town”

One book to read when you want to motivate yourself?

The Secret.

One dialogue of a movie that motivates you or you like the most?

Matt Damon in Martian:

“When I was up there, stranded by myself, did I think I was going to die? Yes. Absolutely, and that’s what you need to know going in because it’s going to happen to you. This is space. It does not cooperate. At some point, everything is going to go south on you. Everything is going to go south and you’re going to say 'This is it. This is how I end.' Now you can either accept that or you can get to work. That’s all it is. You just begin. You do the math, you solve one problem. Then you solve the next one, and then the next and if you solve enough problems you get to come home.”

The place you never been to and always want to go?

Seychelles.

An animal that signifies you & why?

My friends would say, elephant. Because I have a memory of an elephant.  I can remind them of things they said or things we did from twenty or thirty years ago.  Same applies to my work colleagues and employees.

A Movie Character you most resemble or resonate with:

Marvel or DC: DC

Batman or Superman: Superman

Tom or Jerry: Jerry

Chacha Chaudhary or Super Commando Dhruv: Chacha Chaudhary

If your life was to be turned into a movie who would you like to play your part?

Jessica Biel

Luck or Hard Work, what do you think weighs more in defining a successful person?

Luck plays a part, but not without hard work.  Hard work without luck, will get you nowhere.  For a hard-working person to be successful, she must also have luck by her side.

One best decision you ever made?

To marry my best friend from high school.

A strategy that you always use to take your decisions in Personal or Professional life?

For major decisions:  imagine and visualize both sides of the decision and sleep over it, as a rule of thumb.  You have better clarity and a decision in the morning.  For quick decisions:  go with the gut; nothing better than your gut to tell you what to do.

Whose advice do you seek when in a dilemma?

Dad and my husband, and my best friend.

What has been your biggest achievement?

Raising my daughter.  She is six and I am proud of how (my family and) I am raising her.

One thing that you want to change in yourself?

My laziness on things that don’t immediately impact a loved one.  I am often accused of that.  Like being more physically active and playing a sport for myself.

A line said by your close one that you never forget?

Quoting my dad: “Those who dream the most, do the most.”
