Ten Indian Students Appointed Ambassadors For South Australia

The Indian Student Ambassadors are being awarded an exciting 2-week support package worth AUD $4,000 (Two Lakhs)

StudyAdelaide, an agency of the Government of South Australia to promote Adelaide as an international study destination has announced 10 Indian students as Ambassadors for the region. 

The Indian Student Ambassadors are being awarded an exciting 2-week support package worth AUD $4,000 (Two Lakhs) that includes airfares, two-weeks accommodation, a living allowance and free access to key Adelaide festivals and events, enabling students to soak up the full educational and lifestyle experience of the city. 

Over the years, the number of Indian students going to Adelaide to study has been on rise, with 5,400 students choosing to study in the city so far this year. Engineering, Computer science and IT are the most sought-after programmes by Indian students. 

The competition got an enthusiastic response from the students across India with a large number of candidates applying to win the coveted ‘Study Adelaide Student Ambassador’ tag.

Andrew Houey, Director of International Marketing at StudyAdelaide, said, “We are overwhelmed with this response from India. The applications were of very high quality. It was difficult for the judges to choose the ambassadors”. 

“We are excited to welcome our 10 Ambassadors for 2019 and introduce them to our vibrant city life, safe and supportive community and world-class educational institutions.”He added.

Speaking on the win, Karishma Das, one of the chosen student ambassadors said “I am excited to be a part of this program. Adelaide was my first preference as it is one of the fastest growing destinations and offers affordable living and ample employment and career opportunities for international students”.Karishma Das will be studying a Master of Social Work at Flinders University.

The ambassadors were announced at a presentation ceremony in the capital of India attended by officials from the Australian Government and Government of South Australia. Ambassadors who were in the age group of 20-25 years, with a few having work experience of a couple of years were chosen from cities across India and will be pursuing Masters in Engineering, Hotel Management, Social work etc from Adelaide South Australia in July this year.
