Peru -A popular travel destination amongst Indian tourists

The government of Peru recognizing the potential of India as a key partner for trade and tourism opportunities, relaxed the visa requirements for Indians in March 2017

In the recent times, there has been a record-breaking growth of tourist arrivals of Indians to Peru. This is due to the growing popularity of Peru among the Indian tourists, who are evolving in their tastes, and in the look-out for exclusive experiences.

According to the statistics received from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) of Peru, the tourist arrivals of Indians in the country has grown by 36.9 per cent in the first two months of the year 2018, in comparison to the same period in 2017. Similarly, the growth of the number of Indian tourists arriving in Peru, for the period of January to December 2017, in comparison to 2016, has been a promising 22 per cent. 

"Since 2014, when the Commercial Office of Peru in India opened its doors in India and started promoting Peru as a tourist destination in the Indian market, the numbers have grown 36.77 per cent. Peru is a land rich in experiences and the USP of our destination is that it has everything to offer - all you need to do is visit Peru! 2017 has also been an outstanding year with a growth of 22 per cent and to add to that, our growth in January and February 2018 has been a whopping 36.9 per cent. Our office will continue with aggressive promotions in the B2B and B2C segments and hopes to improve our numbers even more in the coming years." said Commercial Counsellor of Peru in India,Luis Cabello. 

The government of Peru recognizing the potential of India as a key partner for trade and tourism opportunities, relaxed the visa requirements for Indians in March 2017. According to the new guidelines, an Indian passport holder with at least validity of visa from United States, United Kingdom, any of the Schengen countries, Canada or Australia is exempted from the requirement of a tourist visa. Moreover, Peru and India are currently in the process of negotiating a Trade Agreement, which should culminate in the coming year. "I am convinced that, the signing of the Trade agreement too, will be the reason for another sharp rise in the figures of Indian arrivals in Peru," added Luis Cabello. 

A travel destination constantly gaining traction amongst Indian tourists, Peru has been voted Best Emerging Destination (International) for 2018 by the readers of Lonely Planet Magazine India. This is the second time in the last three years that the readers of the prestigious Lonely Planet Magazine India have chosen Peru as the best emerging destination in the international segment. The coveted globe trophy was first lifted by Peru in 2016 at the Travel Awards ceremony held in St. Regis hotel in Mumbai on 9th May 2016.

Peru is fast gaining a permanent location in the must-travel-to countries for the evolved Indian traveler.
