Pandemic taking everybody by a surprise, the importance of Learning and Development or L&D has evolved. The multigenerational workforce has opened a window of upskilling and there is a boom in L&D across industries

Discussion on the same happened at BW People Learning and Development Excellence Summit on 28 Nov 2020. HRs contemplated on the topic "Future Ready L&D Departments: Aligning Organisations with Future Trends" which has been chaired by Sugandh Bahl, Senior Correspondent, BW people.

Emphasizing how pandemic has changed L&D; Aziz Ansari, CHRO, Diego India said "Only when this pandemic hits us we realize that business models are not relevant all the time. How we differentiate L&D will define our success"

Reacting to how L&D will help moving forward, HR director, J&J consumer health, Sonal Jain commented "There is a burning platform right now to change. L&D has become important in the sense to think about futuristic trends which are not visible to us today."

While adding more to the same lines around How L&D prepares employees for the future, Carmistha Mitra, Chief Learning Officer, Axis Bank said "One of the main functions of L&D is to drive cultural transformation and change. They become the flag bearers of change."

Reacting to how L&D change involving the market and consumer Ashish Kapoor, Associate Director HR, E&Y said "When business is taking so much interest in what are ROIs. when the leaders are even taking sessions before employees, it becomes important for us to be more nimble."

Certainly, this pandemic has highlighted the importance of learning and development. It also became important for the L & D department to not only align organization with futuristic trends but also to adopt new technologies and ways to engage employees.
