On World Youth Skills Day, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and UrbanClap enter into a partnership to collaborate for the mobilization, training, and certification of service professionals across India. The MoU signed between the two organisations also recognize UrbanClap as a key strategic partner of the Skill India mission.

As a part of the MOU, NSDC will support UrbanClap to become a 100 percent Skill India certified organization under RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). UrbanClap will also create micro-entrepreneurship opportunities for candidates already certified under PMKVY 2.0 and additionally train 30,000 new partners over next one year under short term skilling and upskilling programs.

UrbanClap currently has more than 20,000 Individual Service Professionals (ISPs) working with the platform as micro-entrepreneurs across various services such as beauty (salon), spa, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance servicing & repair, painting, etc. With these 20,000 partners, UrbanClap services close to a million customers every month across 10 cities in India.

Commenting on the partnership, Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Co-founder, UrbanClap said, “UrbanClap is committed to the vision of creating 1 million plus successful micro-entrepreneurs for India and contribute to the Skill India mission. Our association with NSDC will give this mission a boost and will enhance our capabilities in onboarding and training new service partners.”

Speaking on the partnership, Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC said, “As our cities grow smarter, the demand for professional services will increase further. This presents a huge opportunity for the skilled workforce at all levels. Platforms like UrbanClap are a great example of e-marketplace which can support sustainable livelihood. Our partnership with UrbanClap will provide newer opportunities to our youth and I am certain that this will benefit both the candidates and industry at large."

NSDC, under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, is an implementing agency for several flagship programs under the Government of India i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) among others. It also catalyses international training and employment opportunities for Indian youth, through private sector collaboration.

Early this year, interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal had said that creating job opportunities via skilling is a key part of the government’s agenda and 20 million “employment opportunities” are to be added over the next two years. UrbanClap, with its training and upskilling programs, is at the forefront in creating these jobs in India. The company foresees that in the next 4-5 years the market is going to run out of skilled supply and thus, itself contributes as a huge training player in the Indian economy.

With a vision to organize the services ecosystem and building a community of skilled professionals, UrbanClap today is home to approximately 20,000 trained professionals who earn a better livelihood through the platform. Within the next 5 years, the company is committed to expand it platform to 1 million+ service professionals and believe that candidates trained under Skill India mission will play a critical role in achieving this objective.
