HRMS Enabling HR Functions For Effective Employee Engagement

Global business strategists are increasing developing ways to engage employees for enhancing company productivity

?

Employee engagement has emerged as a critical driver of business success in today's competitive marketplace. The term employee engagement relates to the level of an employee's commitment and connection to an organization. High levels of engagement promote retention of talent, foster customer loyalty and improve organizational performance and stakeholder value. In a recent study it was found that, only 13% of the employees worldwide are effectively engaged.

The panel on the challenges and opportunities on Employee Engagement found participation from Ashutosh Thate, Senior Human Resource Manager, Edelman; Seema Singh, CHRO India Post Payments Bank; Sayeed Anjum, Co-Founder and CTO of GreyHR as well as Ashish Anand, CHRO, SAR Group of Companies.

Employee engagement is making headlines as far as the HR community is concerned, especially considering many of the workforce working from home. When asked about the benefits of working from home, Ashutosh Thate said, “While the novelty of working from home lasted for the initial 6-7 months, people eventually started experiencing a bit of fatigue”. He further added that, employee engagement drives sustenance of the employee culture within the organisation. Virtual work culture leads to developing a geographically fragmented work culture, which companies are experiencing at this point.

Seema Singh remarked on the challenges of the on fieldwork culture by saying the main challenge for them was to keep the employees safe. India Post provides banking services at the doorstep of people of the last mile. As a result of on-field bank services, many people lost their lives. “So the challenge was to keep them safe, even more than keeping them engaged”, she said.

“Managing the engagement of the employees is not the responsibility of only the HRs but the entire organisation”, contended Sayeed Anjum while commenting on the shared accountability across the corporate hierarchy for employee engagement.

In terms of reformulating work culture in offices, human beings want to be engaged in a manner in which they wish to be engaged. Ashish Anand added that it is not just the HR but the entire organisation which stays involved in the effective employee engagement. The speakers concurred that the level of customisation depends upon the stage of the organisation and also the kind of industry the organisation belongs to.
