Google’s India Policy Head Archana Gulati Resigns: Reports

Gulati has been a joint secretary for digital communication in Niti Ayog that is PM’s own think tank

As per the reports of Reuters, The head of public policy for India has resigned five months after taking the job. As of now the reason for the resignation is not clear yet. Gulati led a team of public policy executives who looked at regulatory implications for the company in India, one of its key markets. Gulati, who previously worked at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's think-tank, declined to comment. A spokesperson for Alphabet's Google also declined to comment.

Gulati has served the government of India as a joint secretary for digital communication at Niti Ayog which play a very vital role in making government’s policy-making across the sector.  Prior to that, between 2014 and 2016, she worked as a senior official at the CCI, in its Mergers & Acquisitions division, according to her LinkedIn profile. In India, Google is facing a series of anti-trust issues. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is looking into Google's business conduct in the smart TVs market, its Android operating system, as well as its in-app payments system. The watchdog is close to announcing its decision in at least two antitrust cases against Google, people familiar with the process said.

A number of Indian government officials have been hired by Big Tech companies as they face tighter data and privacy regulation, as well as competition law scrutiny, under Modi's federal government.
