Cognizant Elevates Shinji Murakami as Head of Japan
He joins Cognizant from Microsoft, where he led the sales team focused on engaging the C-suite across verticals, helping clients drive digital transformation. Prior to Microsoft, Murakami spent 12 years at Hewlett Packard, where he was General Manager of Enterprise Services for Japan.
Cognizant today announced that Shinji Murakami has joined the company as the Head of Japan and a member of Cognizant’s Global Growth Markets (GGM) leadership team effective January 4, 2021.
Murakami has more than 30 years’ experience leading managed services, mobile communications, business development and go-to-market strategies in the IT industry. He joins Cognizant from Microsoft, where he was the Managing Executive Officer of the company’s Enterprise Group. In this role, he led the sales team focused on engaging the C-suite across verticals, helping clients drive digital transformation. Prior to Microsoft, Murakami spent 12 years at Hewlett Packard, where he was General Manager of Enterprise Services for Japan. He has also held senior leadership roles at Softbank Telecom, IBM and DXC Technology.
Based in Tokyo, Murakami has strong relationships with the business and technology communities in Japan. As the head of Cognizant Japan KK, Cognizant’s Japan subsidiary, he will lead the strategic expansion of Cognizant in Japan, helping customers in Japan respond to changing technology trends and market demands.

Ltd., an intelligent products and solutions company headquartered in Osaka, Japan, specializing in digital strategy, product design and engineering, the Internet of Things (IoT), and enterprise mobility.
