While Apple Inc. an American multinational technology company continues its fight to beat single-digit market share in India, the company lost 3 significant senior executives in the country in the last few weeks.

The three executives consist of Rahul Puri, Head of National Sales and Distribution; Jayant Gupta, Head of Operator Business and iPhone Sales and Manish Sharma, National Sales Head of Telecom.

All three lost employees were a critical part of the growth strategy and were responsible for increasing iPhone sales in India.

As a result, the company is predicted to make certain changes at the mid-level management

Currently, Apple has been struggling with the decrease in sales numbers in India. In fact, in the first quarter of the year 2018, it has moved fewer than a million devices in the country.

Apparently, the numbers have decreased even more than last year. In 2017, Apple has managed to sell about 3.2 M iPhones.

"iPhone India sales were weak in the first half of 2018 and, even if they show a big jump in the traditionally strong second half, Apple will still fall short of last year," said Neil Shah, a research director, Counterpoint.

While Apple is widespread in other countries like Japan. It still struggles to compete with businesses like Samsung and Xiaomi in India. Presently, it has a market share of only about 2% in India.

Apple faces a fair share of problems in uplifting sales mainly because of the availability of cheaper alternatives in the current Indian market.

The other reason might be that the company resorts to marketing iPhones that are a few generations old and doesn’t manufacture them in India itself, which incurs import levies.

Further, Apple has also faced complications in understanding the market and needs of India.

Reportedly, recently appointed Michel Coulomb, Managing Director, Apple, India has been slow to foster professional relationships.

Apple would now be reworking its sales strategy and hence, will also be making certain structural changes in the leadership roles.

Michel, the new managing director plans on only retaining two national distributors, including Ingram Micro and Redington, out of the five Apple already has.

The services of 3 distributors which are Brightstar, Rashi Peripherals and HCL Infosystems are supposed to be discontinued by March 2019.
