"Jo neeche kabhi baitha nahin,vo upar kaise ayega," said Dr. A.Velumani. Ph.D, Chairman and MD, Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. while delivering his keynote address at the recently held BW Businessworld 4th HR Excellence Awards 2018, on the theme "Romance at risk."

An excellent storyteller Dr.Velumani happens to be the first man who made a brand around a gland, that he did not even know in his initial years, but eventually did his Ph.D. on thyroid and later opened Thyrocare Technologies Ltd.

Recounting his humble beginnings and how his parents nurtured him to be the man he is today. Dr.Velumani talked about how poverty and adversity gave rise to his courage and how he started romancing with risks, when he decided one day to leave his job at BARC with Rs 2 Lakh in his fixed deposit he decided to follow his entrepreneurial dreams to open a company in the field of Thryrocare. In Thyrocare he decided to hire freshers and especially those who didn't know English, that reminds him of the days when HRs rejected him because he was a fresher with no experience and village boy in Mumbai who did not know English.

Dr. Velumani emphasized on how important it is for the organisations to break the stereotypes, be innovative and disruptive, that's being the key to his business. Thyrocare provided thyroid tests at rupees 100, that gave a huge boost to the company as he said, "Take less to get more because if you take more, you get less."

Thyrocare became a brand that delivered speed and facilities like sample collection and home delivery of reports at the time when none of the other pathology labs took note of. Today, Thyrocare is a brand with Rs.3300 crores, spread across 1000 cities having 3000 franchises.

Dr. Velumani paid tribute to two women in his life, first being his mother and second his wife, whom he never thought of marrying initially, but who was his sole support system and a guiding force who supported him in taking his decisions to take risks.

Dr. Velumani said, "It's important to move out of your comfort zones that bring the best person in you. I am the 149th richest man in India because I romanced with the risks."
